Over recent years there has been a steady increase in people opting for alternative treatments to cure health conditions. Some holistic practices may initially appear strange, but many have proved highly effective, particularly in helping us to achieve a more spiritual or inner sense of well-being. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a psychotherapeutic alternative medicine based on a theory that negative emotions are triggered by a disruption in the body's energy field.
EFT treatment is a relatively new treatment and only became accessible in specialised clinics just over a decade ago. The founder of EFT was a man named Gary Craig and it is a similar treatment to that of acupuncture but without the needles. The treatment works by tapping with the fingertips on 12 points of the body which correlate to various meridians used in Chinese medicine. The patient is instructed to think of a negative thought along with voicing positive self-talk affirmations which then helps to filter out emotional blockages from the system, thus restoring the mind and body's balance.
The principle of EFT works upon the basis that when a negative experience takes, it triggers negative emotions and ultimately leads to emotional disruption within the body. It can work with many common behaviours whereby the patient does not feel in control. If you tap whilst the negative feelings are at their most intense, it can be extremely helpful in allowing the patient to stop and assess their anxiety. The tapping method aims to restore the energy balance whilst allowing the patient to combat and recognise the negative emotions. EFT specialists claim that the treatment can effectively cure many psychological and physical conditions, including depression, general stress, addictions, phobias and even long-term diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Indeed there have been several cases recorded whereby the treatment has proven successful, especially for helping with addictions such as smoking or phobias. It can also help with those who struggle to achieve weight loss. Many people use food as an emotional release and the tapping method can help the patient to recognise these negative emotions and channel them in a positive way as opposed to using food and thus becoming increasingly distressed by weight gain.
EFT treatment can be beneficial regardless of age or gender and is often used for a variety of both physical and mental conditions. It is an effective way for the patient to recognise and assess their negative thoughts. When the body is out of sync physically or emotionally this can trigger many conditions and illness and therefore an attempt to restore the energy balance is the key to the patient regaining a sense of well-being. If we feel an inner positivity this will certainly be reflected in our general health.
