A lot of people suffer from anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder is a psychiatric disorder that is characterized by feelings of severe anxiety on a persistent basis. Impacts of this condition on an individual are severe where some people arrive to a point that they are no longer able to do their regular and daily activities because of extreme anxiety. This condition should not be taken lightly.
Lucky for you, there are tons of things that you can do by yourself to help overcome your anxiety problem. Below are some tips that you can do to help alleviate your anxiety disorder. Just do them regularly and you'll see your problem gone.
Tip #1: Relaxation Response
Relaxation response is a meditation technique invented by Harvard physician Herbert Benson in the 1970s. This technique requires sitting on a quiet and peaceful place. The individual will then close his eyes and silently repeat a sound or a word or phrase. This can be anything that is significant to you. Repeat it for 10 to 20 minutes while also relaxing your body starting from your feet upwards and also clearing your thoughts. Occasional looking at the clock is allowed so that you may know the time. When you're finished, remain seated with your eyes closed. Then slowly open them still remaining seated. Then let your thoughts get back to reality. The technique may seem to be hard to do at first, but through regular practice you will become good at it.
This technique is very helpful because it reduces stress to the body and trains our mind. Stress is one of the key causes that trigger anxiety attacks. Regular practice of this technique will help in treating and solving your anxiety problem.
Tip #2: Herbal Medication
Herbal medicines have been around since the beginning of time. In fact, drugs and medications today trace their roots from herbal medicines. The advancement of science just made these herbal medicines into capsules. Even though this is the case, herbal medicines did not lose effectiveness and remain to be used by people.
Herbal medicines reduce stress and relax the body. Some of them include lemon balm, motherwort, catnip, kava kava and chamomile. These herbs are boiled in water and is served as tea.
Tip #3: Limit Caffeine Intake
A lot of things that we drink today are rich in caffeine. Take for example coffee. Coffee is a beverage that everyone drinks. And so are soft drinks, tea, and even chocolate - all of which are rich in caffeine. As we all know, everything that is too much is bad. If our body contains a high amount of caffeine, we will surely suffer the consequences. And one of these consequences is anxiety disorder.
Caffeine is very much known to induce anxiety attacks in the long run if there is substance abuse (hence, a term called caffeine induced anxiety). This may even cause anxiety disorder if not taken care of early. It is said that the effects of caffeine are a bit similar to the symptoms of anxiety attacks. Try to limit your intake of substances rich in caffeine such as the ones stated above.
