Is Banana Good or Bad for Diabetes?

A diabetic patient should be cautious about the amount of carbohydrates he consumes. The hormone insulin breaks down carbohydrates and converts into glucose providing you energy to work. A person who has diabetes has an insulin problem. The level of glucose is high is their body. Most of the fruits are rich in carbohydrates; this makes it difficult for the diabetic patient to deal with their glucose level. They should follow balanced diet tips.

One particular fruit that a diabetic patient should be cautious of being a banana. It is rich in potassium, fiber, and vitamin C. Although this nutrition is beneficial, this fruit also contains carbohydrates. Thus, a person who has diabetes should consume a suitable portion of the banana.

Connection between Banana and Diabetes:

  1. Ripe Bananas:

Ripe bananas should be restricted by diabetes patients. Studies prove that ripe bananas respond profoundly to glycemic. It means the blood sugar level increases drastically, thus demanding more insulin.

Unripe or half-ripe bananas, when consumed, respond slowly to glycemic. Experts believe that carbohydrates of unripe banana are derived from its starch. Therefore, patients with diabetic type 2 are advised to follow a healthy habit of eating unripe bananas.

Bananas are fat free fruit. It has a good source of folic, vitamin B6, fiber and potassium. Thus, it advisable to consume the fruit for a healthy life.

Banana slower the absorption of sugar in our stomach and intestine through the blood flow. The protein content in bananas is very effective and compelling in preventing diabetes.

The banana flower which is considered as an obstacle in the growth process of the fruit has many health benefits. Research shows that the flower is beneficial in medication. It contains lots of mineral, fiber and vitamins.

Due to low glycemic index found in banana flower, diabetes patients are advised to consume it. Moreover, banana flower removes bad fat and cholesterol with the feces. Thus, it is good for our digestive system.

A diabetic patient can gain more benefit and positive effect if banana is consumed with egg and yogurt as both of them contain high protein.

Extra small banana contains 8% of potassium which is required for our daily nutrition. Potassium mineral controls our blood pressure. It also contains 2 grams of fiber and some amount of vitamin C. As long as the banana is consumed with high carbohydrate meals, it is good. It means the fruit is saved for the diabetic patient.

Banana chips have starch resistance. Since half ripe bananas contain low glycemic, they should be used to make banana chips. The sugar in the fruit is fructose, and the glycemic index is lower in it as compared to glucose. Hence, banana chips are good to consume for a diabetes patient.

  1. Saba Banana:

The Yellow Saba bananas are the ones that should be consumed regularly by diabetes patients. People with diabetes should consider eating Saba bananas more than latundan banana, as Latundan bananas are very sweet and has a high calorie level. The shooting of high blood sugar in diabetes patients can be controlled to an extent while consuming Saba banana.

Small bananas contain potassium content, which is enough for the body’s daily potassium need. The mineral Potassium is extremely essential for regulating as well as controlling the blood pressure. Hence consuming small bananas is very healthy. Moreover, they have 2 grams of fiber and sufficient amount of vitamin c essential for your body. It should be paired with a carbohydrate meal.

It is a known fact that bananas are low in calories and has a high amount of vitamin B6, vitamin C, fiber and potassium. This makes the person consuming it feel full and relished.
