This one by Thomas Jefferson springs to mind: "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude".
Everyone has their own familiar patterns of thought which are most prevalent to them. Some people look on the bright side, whilst others do not. When under pressure, sometimes people who are normally positive can be seen to waver in the way in which they focus. The fact is that there is a whole range of mental attitudes which we all have the ability to access, so long as we want to and so long as we know how to do so.
I watched a movie last night called "The end of the affair" which you may also have seen. In this movie the lover is so jealous that he cannot enjoy the affair. It shows to dramatic perfection how a human being can choose to focus upon what you have not got to such a degree that there is no enjoyment of what you do indeed have.
When you are extremely busy at work it is easy to get to the stage of feeling that you are getting nothing done, and a feeling of being swamped takes over.
